Mundaring Weir Hotel

Amphitheatre
Outdoor concerts have taken place at the Hotel since the summer of 1985 when David Helfgott performed his first outdoor recital at the Hotel.  A stage was erected at the side of the pool for David and the piano.  Chairs were put all around the pool, and in the garden area, it was a sell-out concert with 800 people attending. People were sitting on the footpath, in garden beds and staircases. The concert was a great success with people asking for more.

The idea of an amphitheatre was born, and over the years the venue has been transformed into one of the best amphitheatres in Australia of its size. Terracing has been cut out of the side and back slopes for seating, tiered seating has been added on the Hotel balconies and a sound shell has been installed over the stage position.

When performances take place the hotel provide its own chairs for the public, and its own stage for the performance.  Parking attendants direct traffic, and the hotel installs lighting in the parking areas for safety.

A new lighting system has been installed to complete the technical part of the theatre.
