Bush Walks and Trails

The hotel is situated in the middle of the state forest, giving endless opportunities for short or long bush walks.  Many established trails go past the hotel or just walk along the roads or tracks in the forest.  Remember to wear sensible footwear and clothing, always carry water and be prepared for weather changes in Winter.  Below are some of the walks in the area.

Golden Pipeline walk trails by the National Trust

Mundaring Short Walk Trail. Approximately 2kms in length.  The trail covers the immediate environs surrounding the Weir and museum.  It is an interpreted walk with points of interest marked along the track with explanatory plaques.  The track is circular, and can be joined at any point.

Mundaring Long Walk Trail

This 7kms walk can be started at the Hotel, runs to the no.2 Steam Pumping Station, past the Hills Forest Discovery Centre, down to the Weir and back up to the Hotel.  This is also an interpreted walk, and can be joined at any point.

Bibbulmun Track

The Bibbulmun Track stretches 963 kms from Kalamunda to Albany through a wide variety of jarrah, marri, wandoo, karri and tingle forest, interspersed with sections of coastal peppermint and heathlands.  It passes through some of the most beautiful and wild areas of the south west, and offers facilities unrivalled on any trail in Australia.  From a local aspect the track goes through our beautiful jarrah forest, with the section from Kalamunda to the Weir Hotel being very popular with the experienced walker.  This section is approximately 15km long and you can be at the hotel for lunch if you leave Kalamunda in the morning!

Kattamorda Heritage Trail

The Kattamorda Heritage Trail 27km walk track that starts at the Mundaring Weir Road and traverses forest, orchard and farmland along the top of the Darling Range to Carmel, where it descends via Bickley Valley to Bickley Reservoir.  The section from Mundaring to the Hotel is 7km long and in many places follows the old rail spur line from Mundaring to the Weir.  A Mundaring Loop is also in place and can be started and finished at the Hotel, it is approximately 14kms long.

                                        North Ledge

North Ledge is situated on the Mundaring side of the hills above the Weir.  It gives a beautiful view of the Weir Wall and the O'Connor Lake.  The walk can be started from the Hotel and takes approximately half an hour going up and a little less going down.

South Ledge

South Ledge is situated on the Kalamunda side of the Weir, as with North Ledge it gives a spectacular view of the Weir Wall and O'Connor Lake.  It takes approximately 45 minutes to walk from the Hotel, and a bit less coming back.
