Bush Walks and Trails

The Mundaring Weir Hotel is superbly nestled amid state forest and offers many opportunities to experience the region's natural beauty. Several bush walks of varying lengths meander past the hotel, providing an ideal way to immerse yourself in nature. If you plan on setting out, always remember to wear sensible footwear and clothing, carry water, have sun protection and be prepared for changing weather conditions.

Some of the walks include:

 

Golden Pipeline walk trails by the National Trust

This 2 kilometre loop trail around the Mundaring Weir and museum comes complete with interpretive signage to explain the most interesting points. You can access it anywhere along the trail.

 

Mundaring Long Walk Trail

You can start this 7 kilometre loop walk from the Mundaring Weir Hotel. It travels from the hotel to the site of the number two steam pumping station along the Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail, past the fascinating Hills Discovery Centre, to the Mundaring Weir and back to the hotel. Interpretive signage along the way explains points of interest.

 

Bibbulmun Track

This world-class hiking trail stretches 963 kilometres from Kalamunda to Albany passing soaring forests, tranquil streams and rugged coast. It traverses some of the most beautiful and wild areas of the south west, and comes complete with free huts for overnight camping. Near the Mundaring Weir Hotel, the track meanders through jarrah forest, interspersed with iconic form of grass trees and seasonal wildflowers. Try starting out from the trailhead in Kalamunda and walking the 15 kilometres to the hotel for lunch - the ideal end to your bushwalking adventure.

 

Kattamorda Heritage Trail

The 27 kilometre Kattamorda Heritage Trail takes you back in time to experience the region's colourful history. It starts at the Mundaring Weir Road and traverses forest, orchard and farmland along the top of the Darling Range to Carmel, where it descends via the picturesque Bickley Valley to Bickley Reservoir. Walkers visit sites of historical interest along the way. The section from Mundaring to the hotel is 7 kilometres long and, in many places, follows the old rail spur line from Mundaring wo the weir. You can also opt to do the 'Mundaring Loop', which can be started and finished at the hotel and it is approximately 14 kilometres long.

                                       

North Ledge-South Ledge Walk Trail

This 13.5 kilometre bush walk through the Darling Range Regional Park system traverses the picturesque Helena River Valley. You can set out from the hotel and travel just half an hour to reach the North Ledge Lookout. Alternatively, take a 45 minute walk from the hotel to reach Golden View, also known as South Ledge lookout, where you'll enjoy views of the weir wall and O'Connor Lake.
